If only writing the perfect, attention-grabbing subject line was easy every time.

Don’t feel like watching the video? Check out the transcript here:

O: Hi, I’m Olivia.

M: And I’m Monica. Welcome to this week’s episode of AWeber Quick Tips.

O: Are you frustrated with a lackluster open rate? Tired of putting time and energy into emails that go seemingly unread?

M: Well, we hear you. And we want you to know that there is hope!

O: Your subject line is the first thing your subscribers see before they decide to open your emails – in fact, 33 percent of recipients say they open based on subject line alone.

M: Talk about the importance of a good impression!

O: But what if you’re torn between two different subject lines? That’s where split testing comes in.

M: Split testing is a great way to increase your conversions, by getting more people to open your emails. Plus, it will help you learn more about your subscribers, which emails they like and which ones they don’t.

O: So how can you split test your subject lines? Let’s break it down.

M: Testing short versus long subject lines is a great place to start. A general rule of thumb is to get your point across using the least amount of characters possible. If your point requires a longer subject line in order to be clear, that’s ok, too!

O: Another easy split test? Adding personalization to your emails. Try including your subscribers name somewhere within your subject line and see how they respond.

M: How you word your subject line is also crucial to the success of your emails.

O: For example, if you’re running a sale, test things like percent versus dollars off in your subject line. You’d be surprised how such a simple swap can impact your open rate.

M: And last but not least, the appearance of your subject lines can go a long way.

O: We’re talking things like capitalization, exclamation points and even emojis to grab subscribers attention. Just remember to stray on the conservative side – you don’t want your emails to come off as spam.

M: And that’s it for today! There are so many things you can test, so we hope this list is a great jumping off point for your first (or next) split test.

O: But before you go, we want to leave you with a quick task:

M: By the end of this week, test out including your subscriber’s first name in the subject line to capture your subscribers attention. If you’ve already tried this, test an emoji to see if it helps you stand out in the inbox.

O: We’d love for you to share the results with us, be sure to leave us a comment below.

M: And be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel, so you never miss an episode.

O: Thanks for watching! We’ll see you back here in two weeks for the next Quick Tips!
